A Foundation Piecing Revolution

At our recent quilt show, I came across a new product from Jen Kingwell Designs, and I was so impressed that I wanted to show you all a bit more about it. I’m talking about Jen’s Foundation Papers Books, for foundation piecing quilts.

I have no affiliation with Jen Kingwell Designs, but Meg was only too happy to show me these books of papers already pre-printed to make some of Jen’s more popular quilts, and for me, this is really a bit of a foundation piecing gamechanger.

I don’t know about you, and your preferred method of foundation piecing, but I have progressed from tracing out blocks separately onto paper, or non-fusible interfacing (for a leave-in option), to printing out a bunch of printed blocks on my printer.  This second method is easier, but uses up a lot of my printer ink, and the paper is just regular letter paper, which is really a bit too thick sometimes for foundation piecing.

These books have just the right number of pages to make enough blocks for Jen’s quilts, and what’s not to love about being able to just buy a set of pre-printed blocks on lighter-weight (like butcher’s) paper, where you can just tear out and use straight away!?!

I believe there’s 9 different sets available now, for quilts like “Wensleydale”,

and “Fractured Hexagon”, “Shooting Star”, “North Star” and “Double Date”.

There’s also sets for the “Ridgeline” and “Baby Ridgeline” quilts too.

So Do they Really Work?

I’m not going to recommend something without giving it a go first myself, and I am delighted to report that these papers work as well as I’d hoped. I had a play with one of Jen’s “Ridgeline” quilt blocks, and it was quick and easy to make using these foundation piecing papers.

I found it better to pin the pieces to the paper to stop any movement.

This is an easy block, as it only has the three pieces.
